Perceptions of Tertiary Level Students on Synchronous Online Classes

Abstract

This study intends to explore the perception of university-level students regarding the use of synchronous online classes for their educational purposes. It also tries to identify the possible reasons responsible for their thinking of using synchronous online classes. In this regard, knowing learners' perceptions is quite essential because even if the ultimate motive of using synchronised online classes is to help the students learn better, however, if the students are not getting the benefits, then it is of no use. Hence it is vital to know whether most students benefit from online classes or if it is creating more trouble for them. The result of the study will be beneficial for the teachers since they will be able to know the students' side of the story, which will help them to design and conduct the courses in a way that would be more advantageous for them. I will adopt a qualitative approach for this study, and the data will be collected through interviews and document analysis. Furthermore, with the help of thematic and document analysis, I will find out the perception of tertiary-level students and look for the causes behind their perception. Nevertheless, by investigating these issues, it is expected that this study will help the educators as well as the other stakeholders to refine the courses in a way which will be more beneficial for the learners and also can make a difference in their perception of using technology for their online classes by addressing their concerns.
